Psalm 52

1 Why do you boast in evil, O mighty man? The lovingkindness of God endures all day long. 2 Your tongue devises destruction, like a sharp razor, O worker of deceit. 3 You love evil more than good, falsehood more than speaking what is right. 4 You love all words that devour, O deceitful tongue.

5 But God will break you down forever; He will snatch you up and tear you away from your tent, and uproot you from the land of the living. Selah
6 The righteous will see and fear, and will laugh at him, saying, 7"Behold, the man who would not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his riches and was strong in his evil desire."

8 But as for me, I am like a green olive tree in the hose of God; I trust in the lovingkindness of God forever and ever. 9 I will give You thanks forever, because You have done it, and I will wait on Your name, for it is good, in the presence of Your godly ones.

I boast a lot in what I know. In essense I talk a lot, I find ways to interject any bit of knowledge that I can into a conversation. Though in a way I am just trying to keep conversation going, or just say something random because I am, I am in no way boasting in the Lord. One of our Ateam devotions the other week was about humility, Steve brought up Colossians 3:17 and how God is jealous for His own glory. While we may be humble in the sense where when people thank us we just kind of shrug it off and say that it wasnt really that hard or dont even really say anything, we are not being humble in the sense that we arent forwarding the attention to the one who deserves it, God. So if I can try and relate this back the the psalm, why do we just say all these useless things, in a way boasting the evils of this world, when we should be praising God with every single word that comes out of our mouths. "I will bless the Lord at all times, His praise shall continually be in my mouth." Psalm 34:1 At the same time I think the first verse is trying to say something about the mightiness of man and his boasting, it doesnt last! The lovingkindness of God endures allllll day long. And in light of the last couple verses, we trust in God because he is forever and ever and has shown Himself to be good, He is the only one who we can trust because all people are deceitful in nature. We give thanks to God because He has already demonstrated that He is worthy of our praise. And we wait because we know Gods character from the Bible and know that He gives us all we need to be sustained.
